Experience

For nearly a decade, Richard Torrenzano was a member of the New York Stock Exchange Management (policy) and Executive (operations) Committees. And on the firing line as the Big Board’s chief spokesman, he had a unique vantage on business, industry and media.

The Torrenzano team has managed some of the most visible business challenges, changes and crises in our lifetime, including:

  • Planned and executed response by U.S. Federal Reserve and consortium of 14 of world’s largest financial institutions on public policy, announcements and global media surrounding $4 billion recapitalization of Long-Term Capital Management that rocked global markets.
  • Represented the Dolan family in their successful legal battle against Altice regarding commitments as part of Cablevision’s $17 billion original sale. Dolans are owners of some of New York’s largest sports franchises, entertainment venues and built a multi-billion public cable and news company.
  • Worked with financial and fintech firms regarding industry and regulatory response, including U.S. Senate hearings, regarding changing equities clearance and settlement cycle in U.S. financial markets(T+1). Recommendations addressed challenges and issues caused by volatility of meme stock investing and trading practices.
  • Set strategy and implemented plans for Penn State’s Board to recover from challenging issues surrounding child sexual abuse, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) fallout and sanctions, as well as significant political and legal issues.
  • Worked with Roman Catholic Church, domestically and internationally, as well as several other organizations regarding predatory issues.
  • Managed major Fortune 500 corporation’s announcement including investor and constituent reaction regarding unexpected board appointment of new CEO.
  • Developed plan of action and coordinated disclosure for a technology manufacturing corporation restatement of three years of earnings, as well as ensuing investor and regulatory actions.
  • Advised Credit Suisse during a difficult two-year period when accused of being “Nazi Sympathizers” due to long-dormant accounts.
  • Managed a global advertising firm communications and investor relations to successfully defend against a hostile takeover by an overseas competitor and, at the same time, complete a multi-media acquisition.
  • Initiated and conducted a public affairs program for Lloyd’s of London defending against class action lawsuit that generated worldwide news coverage, as well as lobbied and gained legislative relief from Congress.
  • M&A communications leader providing strategic counsel and media outreach for some of the largest in history including, Daimler-Benz– Chrysler merger.
  • Led investor relations and media for some of the most notable and complicated initial public offerings, notably Nasdaq Stock Market.
  • Conducted communications and investor programs for acquisitions named “Deal of the Year” by Fortune, Investment Dealers’ Digest and Mergers & Acquisitions.
  • Managed communications and investor relations for one of the largest U.S. bank IPOs, and at the same time, fought and won lawsuits granting NYSE listing. Continued as part of company team for 18 years, until the bank was merged.
  • During New York terrorist attacks, counseled major organizations including Lloyd’s of London, Merrill Lynch, New York Stock Exchange, Nasdaq, American Stock Exchange and Security Traders Association to reinforce their strength and stability in global markets in response to the crisis.
