For more than three decades, Brad advised public and private companies’ managements and boards. A recognized leader in the property-casualty insurance business, he successfully dealt with some of the worst catastrophic losses recorded and serious litigation exposures.
While serving as the general counsel at USAA, he wrote, and the National Association of Corporate Directors published, a director’s handbook for mutual insurance companies’ boards and reciprocal inter-insurance exchanges. It remains the definitive guidebook for those boards today.
Reputation and high-stakes issues management has been at the core of his experience and he has been leading negotiator in numerous acquisitions and divestitures.
One major transition he managed was the ACE Insurance IPO, followed by a secondary offering that set NYSE records at the time. ACE, then a Bermuda based underwriter, was created by 34 major companies, each contributing ten million dollars to form its initial capital.
Ace is one of the leading global insurers in writing policies which covered many of the largest business losses. For the founding companies and many Fortune 1000 companies who would follow, those losses were critical to their survival as well as their reputation.
Brad received his undergraduate degree in Political Science with honors from Denison University and a Juris Doctor degree, National Law Center at the George Washington University, also with honors. He is admitted to practice law in a number of states and before a variety of federal courts.
He was the youngest member of the Domestic Council in the Nixon White House. He served as an active duty Air Force JAG officer, receiving the Air Force Commendation Medal for his work in defending medical malpractice actions
