Michael Clemente

Broadcast and Digital Media Consultant

Michael Clemente is one of the top executives and producers in the television and digital news industry, having held top level positions at the country’s leading broadcasters, where he led and shaped news coverage of many of the biggest events in the last 40 years. He also played a key role in the birth — and growth — of the digital news business.

Today, Michael advises CEOs, founders and entrepreneurs on building news operations from the ground up, transitioning legacy television news operations into the digital space, and creating and producing premium news, public affairs programming and special events. He is also a sought after communications and public relations expert, having provided strategic guidance to top CEOs and media owners throughout his career.

Expertise

Michael’s formative years were spent at ABC News, where he was the chief writer and producer for Peter Jennings, from day one of Jennings’ appointment as principal anchor of ABC News. Prior to working with Jennings, Michael as a young man had close working relationships with broadcasting legends like Frank Reynolds, David Brinkley and Howard K. Smith.

Michael traveled the world with Jennings for global events such as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the first Gulf War, Papal conclaves, the Tiananmen Square unrest, the Palestinian intifada, the 2000 recount, and interviews with every President since Reagan.

Also at ABC, Michael served as the Executive Producer of “This Week” and as Co-Executive Producer of “20/20” with Barbara Walters. As the Executive-in-charge of all of ABC News’ digital media properties, he created the first streaming channel — ABC News Now — and oversaw the transformation of ABCNews.com into what was at the time, one of the country’s most read digital news platforms.

Later in his career, Michael served as Executive Vice President of Fox News, where he was the chief deputy to Roger Ailes and an advisor to Rupert Murdoch. Michael oversaw Fox News’ daily operations and news programming at a time of explosive growth, when Fox emerged as the country’s dominant television news network.

At Fox, he managed Fox News’ presidential primary debates in the 2012-2016 campaign cycles, and was executive producer of the most watched primary debate ever, in 2016, when Donald Trump first emerged as a serious candidate for president. Michael also produced, from Damascus, Syria, the pivotal Fox News interview with Bashar al-Assad, where the Syrian ruler announced he was giving up his chemical weapons program.

Following his decades of service at ABC, CNN and Fox News, Michael has held a variety of senior consulting roles at The Wall Street Journal, Twitter, The Washington Examiner and TBN.
